I know it has already been mentioned on Never An Idol Moment, but I just want to cover this again although it seems a bit too late to jump on the bandwagon and start analyzing them. (Their activity level as a band is like practically gone already.) Another reason might be for the sake of the song and the fun it could be in tearing the guys down, eh? (Just kidding!)
First off, height:
Ehlo Huang Yu Rong (黃玉榮) – 177 cm
Jacky Chu/Zhu Fan Gang (祝釩剛) – 184 cm
Johnny Yan Xing Shu (顏行書) – 183 cm
Matthew Lin Ming Dao (明道) – 180 cm
Sam Wang Shao Wei (王少偉) – 180 cm
Their Average Height: 180.8 cm (Short by 2.2 cm)
After Jacky got kicked out, their average went down to 180 cm. It doesn’t seem much but they’re now short by 3 cm. It gets sadder than that since after Johnny leaves, they’re down to 179 cm, which would make them short by 4 cm. At this rate, even an umbrella wouldn’t help.

To name the most hard-working artists of all time, how can anyone not put Wilber Pan on that list? In fact, he honestly deserves to be on top of that list and it would not be exaggerating at all. His commitment and dedication to his work is just so amazing. The hard-working vibe just radiates off him and shows that he truly values what he has and always pushes his limits to the max – regardless of the consequences. His positive attitude and his full of energy personality is really admirable on many levels.
After giving us Miss No Good and his album ‘Will’s Future‘, he thrives forward again this year, working hard as always. Despite his injury from the fall during one of his concerts, he tries to make a speedy recovery to deliver to us his latest album, ‘007‘ – another amazing album with variety and content.
However, it would be nice to see him have a good rest and not strain his energy too much. It wouldn’t be good if all the strains giving way to other health future problems.
While half of the world is out there amdiring whichever hunk is making the charts at the moment, I must say one of the most admirable ones has been forgotten. Yes, he was recognized by certain parties and fans, but was not brought into the limelight as much. So what exactly did he accomplish to make such an impression? Just by releasing two Cantonese album during last year – 2008. What’s so extraordinary about that? It has not been tried by most of the famous singers for years. Those singers would rather play it safe and release one Cantonese album and one Mandarin album per year. Eric broke the record and braved the public by doing so. What was the outcome? Instant success. During the time when he was releasing “So Far, So…Close“, his fans were ecstatic. They were just excited that he’s back with a new album. They’ve never guessed that he would release another one at the end of the year. Even when ‘Here I Go’ was brought out, most thought that it would be in the second version or other releases of “So Far, So…Close“. No one knew there was going to be “In the Name of…Love” until the end of last year.
Some may say, “What’s so amazing about this guy anyway?” But have you ever thought how he never changed? I meant his voice. It just seems that he’s so stable that his style might have changed but his voice is still the same as before. It’s still that clear voice, not losing an edge at all. Even some of the most notable singers has stepped down a bit or their voice has changed due to age. But his is still amazingly familiar as always. It might have changed like slightly but not that noticeable. That…is something that needs some major acknowledgment.
Eric’s achievements do not stop there since he has always been trying out new things and hoping to bring us more good music – from his perspective.
So what is his latest album? It’s somewhat a quiet release, but it’s called “Only Want To Be With You” with 11 tracks and 3 MVs, including the main theme song from the TVB series, Pages of Treasures. Will he surprise us again with another Cantonese release this year?
When Xiao Jie referred to Jacky as “Jacky Ge” on 綜藝大哥大 several years ago, she was teased by one of the hosts, causing nervousness all around. That one stuck with me until now. It was another reason why I never got used to the whole idea of “Jake” and whatever else came with it. So he wanted to start anew with a clean slate. But some of us rather cling on to past memories – even the bad ones.
Actually, those memories weren’t so bad. It reminded us that every one of us is human after all, right? No, that was not an attempt at an excuse to get anyone’s forgiveness. It is true. Whether each of us are willing to acknowledge it or not, but down that road called ‘life’, we will eventually regret. None of us could see the future. Some of us choose to let go and be oblivious of the current situation until the consequences follow. Some of us are so lost or hurt or for some unexplainable reason and just want to take it to the extreme – regardless. But in the end, we will somehow overcome it and move on. (Of course there are exceptions where some of us might not see the light at the end of the tunnel.) Along that same path called ‘life’, we are presented with many temptations also and will eventually fall for at least one trap. The rest of us can scatter apart, looking in shame and disappointment at the one who fell for it or we can choose to stay and support one another to the end. Therefore, those who stayed are survivors.
Those who pulled through and endured the long hiatus of Jacky can finally take a deep breath out now because he is back and promises for the better because he wants a second chance of pursuing his dream. (Let’s cross our fingers and see.) His recent appearances on shows and events showed a more respectable image, proving of his seriousness in his wanting to pursue his dream. Let’s hope that he will continue to work hard and give us more great music.
So jia you, Jacky Ge!
P.S. You don’t have to agree since we all have our priorities and where we draw that line. I just choose to look at it differently since I don’t put celebs on a mantel and worship and then get disappointed afterwards because they’re not GOD/perfect (duh). I just support because they are singers. That’s it. PEACE!
This song was my first time listening to Wallace Huo and Tian Xia Di Yi (World’s Finest) was also my first series of watching him also. I remember the reason why I wanted to watch the series was because of Roger Kwok. But I was glad to discover Wallace Huo since he is one of those that isn’t just about all looks. Sure, he is not the most extraordinary singer out there, but his voice is unique. (It counts more than those repetitive voices out there so that’s why I don’t go for the awesome ones because I often get bored with those.) I also think that he’s one of those that deserved his fame since he worked really hard for it over the years, portraying all sorts of characters – whether it was admirable or not. He was not good at every single one of them, but he tried and worked very hard for it. He was brought to fame because of those hunk roles he got, such as the role of Xing Wang from Westside Story or Li Wei Xiang from 100% Senorita, but he did not stay comfortable in those roles. He wanted to try out different ones too – even when he could not look his best in those roles, especially the role of Lu Yun Xiang in Sound of Colors. Not to mention, he specifically wanted to cut his hair for Wu Shi Lang to complete the new image of the hateful, money greed Li Ya Shou. (It was said that he didn’t wear make up to have a more real effect but I can’t account for it.)
Anyway, I think he is one of those that I don’t mind watching every single one of his work – although I would get frustrated sometimes at his roles or other roles in that particular drama. It just shows that he’s portraying that role the exact way it should be to get such a reaction.
I’m also looking forward to his upcoming projects as well, especially Chinese Paladin III. But somehow, I wish he would come out with another album. He’s probably too busy with filming to take on singing? It would still be great to see another album in the future. Maybe a duet with Angela Zhang?
Regarding MV: I was going to choose Tian Xia Di Yi’s opening theme version but ended up using this one since I just need to get this out of my system. People need to grow up already. That was for the context and controversial effect of the story weaved in the MV. I read an article that it was Wallace who chose Rosamund Kwan to be the female lead for the MV because they collaborated in the ‘Hands in the Hair‘ movie around that same time. But I could not be sure since I read the article years ago and could have missed something or remember it wrong. However, it could probably be for promo purposes of that movie also. (I never gotten the chance to watch the movie but heard it was built around the same concept with the MV.) Plus, it’s Wallace’s album after all, I think he deserves to have a saying as to who he wants to invite to star in. Work is work after all. Just because the media loves to blow everything up and create stories, do us fans have to believe? (He was rumored with quite a few co-stars. If he had so much time to spend with all of them like the media said, would he have time to film or rest?) Think about it. (And even if he was with anyone of them before or will likely to be in the future, it’s his life after all. Would you want everyone to influence your decision to who you should be with?)
