Sweety

Those who watched Chines Paladin I will know what this mean. I think that Tang Yu and Ah Nu deserve as much attention as the other couples in here. In fact, they’ve been overlooked by Xiao Yao and his two lovers. Honestly, if it wasn’t for Hu Ge and Ady An’s convincing portrayals, the main characters would not have attracted as much attention. I believe that among all the couples in there, only Tang Yu and Ah Nu managed to overcome all obstacles and found true love. They were the couple that actually survived through the test of times yet were not given as much acknowledgment to. As despicable as Bai Yue’s leader was, he was right in that he said Tang Yu and Ah Nu were the only ones who passed all the tests and proved that love still existed because Tang Yu would always forgive Ah Nu time after time and Ah Nu would always regretted of her actions – which directly or indirectly caused grief toward Tang Yu.

Many complained that Ah Nu was too cruel and hated her for keep teasing Tang Yu with the whole marriage promise. However, I think that was how she was – naive and has a simplistic mind. She loved food and loved to have fun. She was always so carefree and did not think of love at that age. However, she was very loyal to her princess and cherished friendship so much. She probably grew fond of Tang Yu unknowingly but did not know that it was love. (After all, people did not just slap the whole idea of love around so much back then like the world we live in today.)

If look at more closely, it was very obvious that Ah Nu relied on Tang Yu a lot and the fact that she trusted him to take care of her. She was not ungrateful of that since she always knew and told him that he was the best because he would always take care of her and make her happy. Why did she not call on anyone else to help her at times but just Tang Yu? It was not because she liked to use him or bully him, but he trusted him and knew that he would never harm her. She was comfortable with him because he always made her feel safe.

What made Tang Yu different from other characters in here was his determined nature. If he made up his mind about something, he would not change it for anyone. Though he seemed weak or not having a mind of his own – mostly because he followed and obeyed his godfather’s commands but he knew what he was doing. It was his kind heart and his determined nature that made him heroic. He loved Ah Nu dearly but he did not let that love blind him from other responsibilities or his loyalties to his friends.

Tang Yu never minded that Ah Nu was not appreciating him enough but he was happy that she was happy. He even went out of his way to make her happy by buying her food or even thinking of fun games for her. Perhaps the only time that he felt hopelessness was when they were trapped under the mud and were not able to free themselves. He told her to not promise anymore. But he did not regret in dying with her – if that was the case.

The unbreakable link between them represented itself through Ah Nu’s special red string that her mother had used to tie a bond with her and her godmother. She then used it on her princess and then her good friend, Tang Yu. Tang Yu was really special to her, therefore, receiving a spot on her hand too. (Those who watched would know that the last one was reserved for her father.)

What made their relationship even more special was that their actions showed more of their trust (as discussed above) and care for each other than other couples. Too much talks or promises would always fail. Yes, there were false promises from Ah Nu to marry Tang Yu at various times but it was because she was not able to grasp the true meaning of love yet. However, their willing to sacrifice for each other – regardless of the circumstances or consequences made it very admirable – and probably hard for some people. They were always sharing the hardships together with all the tests given. Coincidentally, it was always the hopelessness of not surviving each time or being separated but they never backed down if the obstacle would present itself once again.

They went through so much together and matured together as well. Though Tang Yu was more serious – mostly due to his godfather’s influence but there were things he did not understand yet. Ah Nu was innocent but she later knew the seriousness of matters. Tang Yu actually said it when the others were urging him to go along with them to save Ah Nu. Indeed it was true because Ah Nu finally learned to take care of Tang Yu at last when she proposed to him, convincing him of her sincerity and determination. She putted it innocently as, “I will learn how to cook.” It was a little joke on her only knowing how to eat. However, it showed that she was serious in caring and looking after others, not just knowing how to eat and play like the old days.

Because they were the only couple who were true to one another till the end, they were the ones actually meaning to receive the special pieces. (That little crush Ah Nu had on Xiao Yao did not count since it was just some innocent obsession at that time.) Once again, Ah Nu showed her maturity, repeating of her vow that she would look after Tang Yu after they turn into birds.

This was Eddie Peng and Esther Liu’s first collaboration and probably paved way for the two upcoming projects – although it took years later. Their chemistry proved convincing and cute.

From the role of Ye You Li – a competitive girl from Mr. Fighting, to a mischievous Ah Nu – from Chinese Paladin, to the innocent, respectable Teacher Su Fei from Green Forest, My Home; all these roles that she’d taken were loved by the fans. Liu Pin Yan’s natural acting brings upon the audience a feeling like: she’s acting as her own self.

Liu Pin Yan on screen and in real life
Liu Pin Yan admitted that there was not much difference between her on-screen characters and her real life self: “Lively, outgoing, and comedic – those are my most known personalities; forgivable, uncalculating, and trustworthy – those are my good qualities; soft-hearted, a little laid back, and naïve – are my flaws. If I was a guy, I think that I could attract a lot of girls.”

At 18, she entered quite early into the complex and competitive world, but Liu Pin Yan was able to preserve her optimistic and honest personalities – this is very rare among her colleagues of the same age. Liu Pin Yan is very knowledgeable in culinary, favoring American delicacies. Her love for food has even influenced Zeng Zhi Qiao (a member of the band Sweety). When free, both girls would go watch movies together and discovering the finest culinary. In regard to foods and beverages, Zeng Zhi Qiao really admires Liu Pin Yan’s tea preparation and drinking techniques.

Hard-working today, harvesting tomorrow
2005 was Liu Pin Yan’s most successful year with both acting and singing careers. Two of the TV Series that she starred in – Chinese Paladin and Mr. Fighting – broadcasted in Taiwan, bringing high ratings, helping Liu Pin Yan becoming well-known within the entertainment industry. SETTV paired her off with the Royal Prince Li Wei Lian in Green Forest, My Home. Whenever she goes out and hears the audience calling her “Yan Yan” (her nickname), she could not help but be happy with the love fans bring for her, even shedding tears out of touch sometimes.

The Lucky Girl
Only 18 but already has an established career, driving the newest car, living in a luxurious house…However, her friends do not know, behind all that fame, there were all the hardships Liu Pin Yan had to face and all the hard work put in. When filming Chinese Paladin, she could only sleep about 5 hours; the same goes for Green Forest, My Home since she was only able to catch some winks in between breaks on set during the 8 days of filming. Liu Pin Yan said: “During the high school years, whenever exam time comes around, the task of waking up early to study is my most…detestable; I rather stay up late than wake up early. But when filming, there were a lot of ‘staying late, waking up early’.” When she first entered the entertainment industry, because she was not used to the schedules, Liu Pin Yan often fell ill, causing her mother’s apprehension. Her mother even suggested to her agent to not extend her working hours any longer. However, she was only ‘saved’ for several days with being let off early and then everything would return to its previous state.  It was then that she understood the phrase “sacrificing in the name of art” that other seniors often mentioned.

The age of dreaming
Like any other girls in the age of dreaming, Liu Pin Yan’s world of love consisted of the color red: “My mother is not an old-fashioned person; she does not stop me from falling in love at the age of 18.” Asked, “Of all the male cast from Green Forest, My Home, who would she choose?” After a little time of thinking, she replied: “I like a man who is strong, forgivable, must be older than me, and has to be considerate and caring towards me. Most importantly, my mother must be approvable of him. He must pass my mother’s surveillance in order to become my boyfriend.” Liu Pin Yan said that her mother does not prevent her from having a boyfriend, but her mother wants her to focus her attention on her studies (currently in college) and her career. After Green Forest, My Home her pay has risen seven digits. At the beginning of 2006, she was invited by a beauty products company to be their spokesperson, replacing Yang Cheng Lin, with the fees of over NT$1 million.

Since Love Buffet started filming, there have been more rumors circulating around Aaron Yan of Fahrenheit and Joanne Zeng of Sweety more than the supposed leading guy, Calvin Chen – the other member of Fahrenheit that is involved in this production. However, fans who wish to read more about rumors of Calvin and Joanne will be in for a good one this time around because recent reports (which could have pushed forth for the gossip columns instead) has it that Calvin and Joanne have been dating recently with the supposed pictures captured with them in the rain while Calvin was playing the knight in shining armor, protecting Joanne from getting wet. Another piece of evident brought in for support of the statement also mentioned their spending time together during Chinese Valentine’s Day. What was the response from the parties involved? Calvin recently posted up an entry, clarifying of the matter. Calvin’s manager also pointed out that they were living in the same area so of course they would meet up for meals. (Which was also the same response held true for Aaron Yan – who was spotted with Joanne several months back.) Interestingly, Joanne’s manager was surprised of the news yet expressed support toward the couple – IF it was true.

Which version should we believe in? Honestly, for what it’s worth, people need to leave them alone. Yes, everyone’s getting excited about the upcoming drama, Love Buffet, but no need to slap around accusations just because two people are seen together for meals. (Seems suspicious because the media is good at paving the picture for all of us.) Even if it’s true and they’re trying to keep a secret or whatever, I do not think it’s any of our business.

For those who thinks that it is part of some show to promote “Love Buffet“, it could be possible but not probable in Calvin’s case. Though I’m not that familiar with Fahrenheit, but more avid fans have claimend of Calvin’s sincerity and great attitude towards those around him. I would rather take his word for it that he’s doing what he has been taught and taking good care of a female friend is just normal. Or is the media suggesting everyone should act cold towards one another? And not show manners? After that, the media is probably reporting about disagreements among the cast, etc. Is doing some chivalry act a crime now?

Calvin has been busy with running back and forth between the Love Buffet and Momo Love sets so he has not been around as much for the media to attack. Now that he’s back and spending time with a cast member (and making new friends), he’s being attacked?

Last of all, I’m so looking forward to Love Buffet even more now since the cast seems to be getting along really well so the chemistry should be great also between all parties.

Since we’re entering autumn and there are quite a few dramas airing, what are you looking forward to? I think this is a really exciting season. At least for me, there are a lot of dramas that I find interesting and hopefully they won’t disappoint like in the past. Most of the dramas have been quite low profile so it might surprise us more than those that receive tons of promotions but failed in the end. So let’s hope the best for each.

Love Buffet – Fahrenheit and Sweety collaboration – sort of with some members involved. The funniest thing is most fans are supporting the QiaoLun pairing. Maybe it’s because they’re seen together more and how Calvin has to run back and forth between locations for this and Momo Love. This started out quite low profile but was later spotted and blogged by many fans. The production was very lively and even the manga creator was quite excited about it, even picking out Aaron for one of the main leads.

Momo Love – After the change of cast and a change of the script, the production team start anew with a new goal. Considering how Director Winnie works, this should be quite slow pace, however, it should be worth the wait. However, unlike the last production that someone decided to step in and butchered it, he had freedom this time to finish what he started. Not to mention, it is airing yet so plenty of time. Major cast in this one as well, leaning more on the guy side since there seemed to be only about 2 girls in here aka the leads, not counting others. Fahrenheit and Cyndi have been in quite a few ADs together (although it might be due to some manipulations of graphics) but still a familiar feel to some fans so hopefully there will be plenty of support for this one. Words have it that Ken Zhu has a hand in directing this drama so let’s look forward to his creativity side.

Next Station, Happiness – After all the change of cast, it was finally decided as a Van Ness and Ady collaboration. To be honest, I was having doubts of seeing Ming Dao with either Yoo Hana or Ady An since it felt wrong. (However, I would still support it if it was that way since I am fans of the three anyway so would see what happens.) Van Ness and Ady look more compatible to me and after seeing the trailers, it seemed like it would be an interesting pairing. (Who knows? I might end up liking Van Ness with Ady after watching this.)

River Lovers – A Leon and Genie collaboration. A very refreshing pairing. Not to mention Remus Kam is in it as well. (Hopefully he gets a notable role since it looks like he has a major role at the press conference.) It is neither a SETTV or GTV drama and have been very low profile to the point of non existence if it wasn’t for Leon, Genie, and some of the others from the production team updating us, we would not have much news. The press conference at the very beginning of the shoot was it. It has finally wrapped and it is just a matter of time before it airs.

Lucky Day – From my last post, it is very obvious that I’m waiting for this and it will be airing at the same time during the filming process. Hopefully, there won’t be some rush or other types of plot gap for this one as it happens with dramas that are airing while still in filming. A Wallace and Tammy collaboration. A technology slash sci-fi theme sounds promising all right. Let’s hope the plot delivers.

One word to sum up all these dramas – refreshing! Yes, full of new pairings so viewers might have a different feel instead of the same couple over and over. (But of course that would depend on taste as well.)

Those are on my list of must watch, which are on yours?

I decided to start this mania just for the sake of fun and to occupy the blog further with all the randomness. So, what is in for this month?

August is the eighth month of the year (obviously) and is dominated by the sign of Leo, giving Virgo the rest of the dates from 24th onward. Its flower are gladiolus and poppy. The birthstones are peridot and sardonyx. (Yes, trivial stuffs. But not really – had some help from: here and here.)

Margie Tsang Wah Sin (曾華倩) – August 6th: Hope that she had a good one. (I was hoping she would join Felix and Michael in their new series but far-fetched.)

Wilber Pan Wei Bo (潘瑋柏) – August 6th: What did Mr. Perfectionist do this year?  Still trying to be a perfectionist, of course. Honestly, please take care of your health and loosen up a bit, Mr. Pan. We still want to see you singing and dancing for years to come.

Esther Liu Pin Yan (劉品言) – August 8th: Born on a triple 8, hopefuly, it will bring her luck this year also. Will she come back to celebrate her birthday with friends like last year?

Andy Hui Chi On/ Xu Zhi An (許志安) – August 12th: He already celebrated with some fans so that’s out of the way. Or is he going to have some other side parties with friends later?

Kevin Cheng Ka Wing/ Zheng Jia Ying (鄭嘉穎) – August 15th: Still filming that new series with Tavia Yeung so he’ll be busy. Maybe there will be a chance of the crew celebrating with him? (He will probably get a break somewhere in Septemeber or not since he will start filming that new family drama with Roger Kwok in October. Yes, another Roger and Kevin series!)

Jessica Hester Hsuan (宣萱) – August 18: According to news, Jessica chose to participate in an upcoming cop drama with Michael Miu and Felix Wong instead of joining Roger Kwok and Kevin Cheng in a family drama. (I guess we can’t see another Ah Wong and his wife’s collab?)  Still, that leaves August open for her a bit to celebrate or probably she’ll be busy with other events? Can’t wait to see her upcoming series though. (Of course confirmation could only follow when there are more solid evidence. Probably a good sign of it would be some press conference or promotional events, which we will have to wait for September to arrive to see.)

Dean Fujioka (藤岡靛/ 藤岡竜雄) – August 19th: Probably working on some sort of project at the moment. Wonder what he’ll do by then. However, hope he has a good one also.

Tang Feng (唐豐) – August 19th: With his busy schedule, will he find time to fit in his birthday? Probably yes since it’s one of the most important days, right? Who knows? He might update us this year.

Jacky Chu/ Zhu Fan Gang (祝釩剛) – August 22nd: He’s turning 30 this year. Yes, the big 30 and is still in the process of resurrecting his career. Will he actually take time off to celebrate his birthday this year or will he continue working hard despite the special day? Will the others, specifically 183 Club, celebrate with him this year?

Remus Kam – August 22nd: Coincidentally, Remus was also born on the same day as someone else, except in 1976. Currently filming ‘River Lovers’ with Leon Jay Williams, Genie Zhuo, and the rest of the cast. The production team has been suffering from health problems because of the weather. Hopefully everything will be fine with them soon.

Alam Tam (譚詠麟) – August 23rd: Apparently, Mr. Tam is turning 59 this year, not ‘25′ like he always wish.

Jiro Wang Dong Cheng (汪東城) – August 24th: Jiro is currently working alongside fellow band-member, Calvin Chen, and Cyndi Wang in ‘Momo Love’. Fans are still pondering as to how he will celebrate his birthday this year. And if the crew will have a surprise for both him and Cyndi since their birthday are close together - with hers on September 5th. (A bit far-fetch but still possible.)

Him Law (羅仲謙) – August 28th: ‘D.I.E. Again’ will be airing around the same time as his birthday so will he have a double celebration for it? Hopefully he will get to show his acting skills in there. He will also be busy filming a new modern series with Joe Ma, Flora Chan, and the rest of the cast around that time.

*The list above is ordered by date, not by names in case you’re confused. Also, I only included of my favorite celebs or the ones that I actually tune in to the most. It did not meant that the were no other August birthdays.

Just-for-Fun: Whose birthday are you anticipating the most among your favorite celebs?
